Isabel Lucas Confirms She Is In Terrence Malick’s ‘Knight of Cups,’ Says Film Will Be Out In 2015

Over the past few months, some of the actors who stopped by the set of Terrence Malick’s “Knight Of Cups” have shared their unique experiences working on the movie. Joel Kinnaman described having to deal with a seventeen-page monologue, Cate Blanchett called it a “quasi-religious” experience, Teresa Palmer talked about Malick’s method of “torpedoing” the actors, and Antonio Banderas thinks he’s made the final cut, though some of the material he doesn’t even remember shooting. And now another actress reveals that she too has probably survived the editing process, but adds that we’ll perhaps be waiting much longer to see the finished product.

Yesterday we ran into “Electric Slide” actress Isabel Lucas and her director on that film, Tristan Patterson, as they made their rounds at the Tribeca Film Festival. We couldn’t help but ask what she had coming up next, partially because we were kind of curious if she was going to pop up in the next “Transformers” movie (remember when she was Shia LeBeouf’s robotic dorm room seductress in “Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen”?) Instead, she gave us some details about her involvement in “Knight Of Cups,” including a potential release date.

“I worked with Terrence Malick right before working with Tristan, two years ago,” Lucas revealed. “So ‘Knight of Cups’ will be coming out next year.”

When we joked that we hope she had made the cut, since you never know with Terrence Malick films, Lucas confirmed that she had communicated with the elusive director and that he had made it very clear that she was still in the movie. “He said I am definitely in the film.” Patterson interjected: “She did ADR!”

As always you never really know until it’s all put together, but you can probably count on Isabel Lucas definitely, probably, almost 100% being in “Knight of Cups.” As for the release, it looks like Malick is taking his time and is in no particular hurry to get it out there, so shrug off thoughts of a festival premiere later this year and keep your eyes on 2015.

Update on “Electric Slide” + new production still

July 11th 2013 • by Jess • No CommentsElectric Slide, Gallery Update

I’m a bit late on this, but Electric Slide was screened by its production company Myriad Pictures at the Cannes Film Festival a couple of months ago in order to attract distributors. No word on whether they did manage that, but there’s obviously a huge market there. To coincide with this screening, they also included their film on their websites and you can view those website pages here and here. Included in that promotion was a new still from the film, which shows Isabel and Jim in character:

First still of Isabel in “Electric Slide”

Saving the best til last of our several updates today – we now have our first look at Isabel as Pauline in Electric Slide! Isabel’s involvement in this film was first reported on last October, and she has been filming the movie in Los Angeles in the time since then. The first still from the film has recenty been posted online, to accompany a Variety article about the potential sale of the film at the European Film Market currently being held in Berlin. It’s a long, long article with only a short mention of the film, talking about how the film may get an initial release on Video On Demand in the US. I’ve posted the excerpt relevant to Electric Slide below, and you can read the whole thing at the source linked beneath that. The still itself shows a hurried Pauline in a pretty red and black dress, being dragged along by Jim Sturgess’s character Eddie Dodson. Read back through our News Archive for the film to find out more about the story.

Steaming brings boost to Berlin

Digital distribution and compressed windows may not seem like the sexiest topics, but these two phenomena have bolstered an indie film world undercut by the crash of the DVD market. And whether it’s pre-theatrical VOD, day-and-date multiplatform distribution or ancillary windows far briefer than the customary three-month, compressed window releasing has become common enough — and sometimes profitable enough — to begin influencing how films are financed.

Isabel filming “Electric Slide” in Los Angeles now

October 26th 2012 • by Jess • No CommentsElectric Slide, Rumoured Role

Congratulations to Isabel for landing another big Hollywood role! I’ve just come across some reports that say she is filming a new movie in Los Angeles entitled Electric Slide, and her management Meissner Management confirm this on their Facebook page. (Note the picture they’ve used for the information on that Facebook page is sadly not from the set, it’s actually from Earth Hour earlier this year).

This independent drama will co-star Jim Sturgess, Chloe Sevigny and Patricia Arquette, and will be written and directed by Tristan Patterson. (Ewan McGregor and Carey Mulligan were previously attached to star). The synospsis is as follows:

Based on the article “The Yankee Bandit: The Life and Times of Eddie Dodson, World’s Great Bank Robber”, written by Timothy Ford and published in Gear Magazine, “The Electric Slide” tells the true story of suave hipster and celebrity-magnet Eddie Dodson, who in 1980s Los Angeles owned and ran one of the city’s most stylish art deco furniture stores. Celebrities flocked to buy the latest pieces and Eddie was living the high life along with the Hollywood elite.

But when Eddie met cool and unimpressed Jenny, he decided to do the most outrageous thing he could think of to win her attention— he robbed a bank. Eddie discovered in himself the uncanny ability to charm pretty bank tellers into emptying their drawers of cash and getting away with it. And Jenny discovered that a boyfriend who robbed banks was about as hot as it got.

Over a period of months, Eddie and Jenny robbed over 70 banks in the Los Angeles area, often narrowly escaping the increasingly frustrated FBI. When the authorities interviewed the tellers who had been robbed, each of them described Eddie “like a movie star, the most charming man they had ever met.” The media, jumping on the story, dubbed him “The Gentleman Bandit”. But Eddie’s criminal lucky streak would not last forever as the FBI closed in and angry loan sharks with unpaid debts threatened his life.

Even better, this casting call advert says that Isabel is the film’s #2 “so she will be working quite a few days” … I am presuming this means she will be 2nd lead (behind Jim Sturgess), which is the character of Jenny, going by the synopsis! This is great news for Isabel, and for us fans.
